Panasonic LUMIX GX8 + Olympus M.Zuiko 40-150mm f2.8/Pro @150mm, ISO 250, 1/640 s, f/5.6

This week’s picture shows a bee carrying a heavy load of pollen. I recently bought the Olympus M.Zuiko 40-150mm f2.8 Pro lens to complement my lens collection. Of course… I had to go for it and try the close-up qualities of this lens first. It is not a macro lens with the minimal focusing distance of approximately 70 cm, but the extra reach 300mm (full frame equivalent) allows to stay out of the flight distance for many insects. Taking pictures with such a focal length is a bit challenging. First, camera shake is amplified. Second, you might loose your subject when looking into the viewfinder. Last, the depth of field is very shallow (especially when focusing close), but this also helps to get a nice blurry background (bokeh).
